After getting up at 5:30am to walk to the station to catch the train, to go to the airport to board the plane, to catch the bus in Lisbon airport to board the train in centro Lisbon, we finally arrived in Sintra at 2:00pm. What a wonderful town this is with castles and palaces and wonderful winding streets with so many tiles and ceramics to buy! After walking and hiking to the top of the hill/mountain to see the castle, and dragging ourselves back to our B & B, we went out and had the most wonderful meal in a local restaurant. No one spoke English and what fun that is to try and pick out something to eat. We ended up with a delicious soup and rice/fish stew and a hi-5 and a kiss with the woman who owned the place. I think we are going to love Portugal!

Tuesday, October 9th - hard to believe its October! The leaves have not even started turning here yet. I wonder when that happens? Anyways, Sintra is just northwest of Lisbon if anyone is wondering. It's where the kings and queens had summer palaces and that's what we toured today. Pena palace, built on the top of the hill/mountain and it was quite the place. We have never seen anything like it. It almost looked like it was designed by Disney for a theme park. The weather today was very foggy with a fine mist and made the castle seem magical. This is the first day in 3 weeks that we've had clouds and rain. We can't complain!
